At 18 km from the border with Bangladesh, India has built the great Farakka dam that diverts most of the waters of the Ganges to Calcutta.<br />
As a result of this work, during the dry season the river flow in Bangladesh falls by 70%.<br />
The Ganges in recent years has begun to change the course of the river in the vicinity of the dam. Here you can see a strip of land in the middle of the river that came out just two years ago.
